16 million GEL to be Allocated for Restoration of Mtatsminda Forest Landscape
The Cartu Foundation, established by former Georgian PM and current Chairman of the ruling party Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili, is to fully finance the restoration of 700 ha forest landscape on Mount Mtatsminda in the heart of Georgia's capital Tbilisi, Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced today.
The restoration process will last for the next four years and in total, 16 million GEL will be spent on it.
Tbilisi Mayor spoke about the importance and details of the project, noting that the initiative aims to restore the degraded forest and develop recreational infrastructure.
"We have planned a number of events, among them the rehabilitation of existing parks, squares, construction of new city parks and many important steps have been taken in this direction. Today, I would like to inform you that within the framework of the agreement with the Cartu Foundation, Tbilisi City Hall is launching a project to restore the Mtatsminda slope in the heart of the capital, which envisages full restoration and rehabilitation of the Mtatsminda slope forest landscape. You know that we have serious problems in the ecological direction in the city," he said.
He thanked Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family for their support and noted that after the implementation of the project, Tbilisi will boast another well-developed tourist attraction.
"I would like to once again thank Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family for their support. 16 million GEL has been allocated for this specific project in order to replace the existing trees and revive the Mtatsminda slope, the heart of Tbilisi," Kaladze emphasized.
