11 Citizens Arrested for Attempted Illegal Crossing of Turkey-Georgia Border

Georgian border police have detained 11 citizens for illegally trying to cross the border into Turkey.

According to the statement of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), nine Bangladeshi and two Turkish citizens were trying to cross the border by avoiding the border control in an area near Akhaltsikhe, at the second Vale section, on Thursday.

The investigation is underway in accordance with the Criminal code of Georgia, Article 19, for a group attempt to illegally cross the border.

Meanwhile, following the Paris attacks on November 13th, Georgia has tightened visa controls on all state border checkpoints.

According to the latest data from the MIA, 479 people have been refused entry into Georgia since Nov 14th.

The MIA has decided to strengthen the Border Police personnel and additional forces were mobilized in order to protect state land borders and tighten border control.
