Tbilisi's Parliamentary Library Prepares for Reopening
The National Parliamentary Library of Georgia is getting ready to reopen its services as the coronavirus pandemic gradually loses momentum.
General Director of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, Giorgi Kekelidze, said in his Facebook post that the processing and digitizing of physical publications will resume by the end of May, as will working on digital databases.
Kekelidze said the library has already carried out all essential work to guarantee the future safety of its employees, who are preparing to return to work from early summer.
Reading rooms are all set to reopen from July, with public events expected to restart in September.
Kekelidze also announced the anticipated opening of new spaces at the library, including a museum of press at a pre-selected site in the Avlabari district of Tbilisi.
He added that the library will continue its work on setting up small libraries in the schools of relatively deprived Georgian towns and villages.
In 2020, some of the most vital advancements pioneered by Kekelidze include the opening of a Georgian Library within the University of Qatar; the opening of The Folklore Hall in Building 2 of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, as part of a joint mission to support and promote the Georgian chant tradition and other forms of Georgian folklore; collaboration with the France’s Bibiliotèque Mazarine, to name just a few.
