17 New Cases of COVID-19 Reported in Bolnisi

In the past 24 hours, the number of coronavirus cases in Georgia has increased by 19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 671.

15 of the 19 new cases were reported last night in the eastern Georgian municipality of Bolnisi, which has been under quarantine since March 22. 

Marina Ezugbaia, the medical director of Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital, said that in addition to the 15 cases confirmed yesterday, two more cases of infection have been detected in Bolnisi and in total 17 new cases have been reported there. 

The village of Geta in Bolnisi has been placed under lockdown. The decision was made due to 8 new cases of the new coronavirus.

From May 18, the whole municipality will be put under tighter lockdown, with entry and exit prohibited. The tighter restrictions will remain in force until May 22, the official date of the end of the State of Emergency. 

Until now, similar strict quarantine measures have been in place in two villages in Bolnisi. There are 139 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Bolnisi. 49 patients have recovered and 3 people have died. 78 citizens are in self-isolation and 69 in 14-day mandatory quarantine.

10 more patients have recovered from the virus in Georgia and the total number of recoveries increased to 393.

3873 people are in a 14-day mandatory quarantine and 404 are under observation in hospitals.

As of now, the country has a total of 671 coronavirus cases, including 393 recoveries and 12 deaths. 

Currently, there are 266 active cases in Georgia.
