US DTRA Donates $500,000 in Equipment for Georgia to Fight COVID-19
The US Embassy in Tbilisi has made a US DTRA donation to the Georgian public.
This month, the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in sum delivered nearly $500,000 in personal protective equipment to the Georgian Border Police, Emergency Management Services, State Laboratory of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Internal Affairs. This PPE (personal protective equipment) includes goggles, safety shields, disinfection spray, respirator units, infrared thermometers, and coverall suits.
“This assistance will help Georgia’s healthcare authorities ensure they are able to respond to the threat of COVID-19 in a safe and sanitary environment,” writes the Embassy.
On May 15, US Ambassador Degnan and Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze welcomed the arrival of high caliber testing equipment and materials which will be used to conduct 4,000 gold-standard RT-PCR tests, and additional $20,000 worth personal protective equipment, donated by the U.S. to the Ministry of Health.
