9 Georgian Sailors Kidnapped by Pirates in Nigeria, Released
9 Georgian sailors are now free after 21 days of captivity and will soon safely return to their homeland, said Tamar Ioseliani, director of the Maritime Transport Agency.
She added that Georgian sailors abducted by pirates on April 30 will return to Georgia from Nigeria by a special flight in a few days.
The director of the Maritime Transport Agency congratulated sailors and their family members on the release and noted that the state used all its leverages to set them free.
On April 30, pirates attacked a Panama-flagged ship in Nigeria. Nine out of 10 abducted sailors were Georgian citizens. The four remaining sailors, who were also Georgian citizens, managed to escape from the pirates.
