Italy Opens Borders to European Tourists

Italy has opened its borders to European tourists. The Daily Mail reports that starting today, June 3, EU nationals will be allowed to enter Italy without any quarantine.

Italian PM Giuseppe Conte said Italy had to accept a risk to "get started again."

"Spain is also planning to welcome tourists back in 'late June', a government minister said today, after Italy announced that its borders would re-open on June 3. Transport Minister Jose Luis Abalos said the current two-week quarantine for foreign visitors would be phased out when travel restrictions are lifted within Spain. 

"Tourism accounts for more than 10% of both countries' GDP but the coronavirus crisis has thrown the industry into chaos," reads the publication. 

More than 230,000 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Italy, of which 33,500 have been fatal.
