The Amazing Race Films in Tbilisi for Season 28

One of the most popular reality shows, The Amazing Race, arrived in Tbilisi for its 28th season. Participants have raced through several places in Georgia, including Narikala, Mtskheta and Jvari Monastery.

The Amazing Race is an American reality competition show in which typically eleven teams of two race around the world to win $1 million. The participants have to deduce clues, navigate themselves through foreign areas, interact with locals, perform physical and mental challenges, and vie for airplane, boat, taxi, and other public transportation options on a limited budget provided by the show’s producers.

Some of the participants of the 28th season are well-known social media personalities, such as Tyler Oakley and Zach king.

One of the challenges for the participants was to clean a Kvevri, a Georgian traditional earthenware vat for wine. The UNESCO list included winemaking technology that will be seen by millions of viewers worldwide.

The participants visited the Rustaveli Theater, dressed in cultural Georgian clothes and took Georgian National Ballet lessons taught by the famous dance company Sukhishvilebi, as another challenge.

The final destination in Georgia was at Rike Park and the Peace Bridge. Whoever reached the the finish line last was eliminated from the competition.

“I chose Georgia because we hear a lot of great things. It is extraordinary, beautiful and a culturally rich country we have never been to before,” commented co-creator and executive producer of The Amazing Race, winner of 10 Emmys in the Best Reality Show category, Bertram van Munster.

The Georgian National Film Center, the Ministry of Culture, and several other agencies collaborated with The Amazing race and CBS.

“This reality show is great publicity for Georgia. The show has about 80 million viewers. This will attract film production as well as viewers,” said Nana Janelidze, the Director of the Georgian National Film Center.

The 28th season will premier in January, 2016, and the episode in Georgia will air in February. The host of the show, Phil Keoghan will introduce Georgian culture to the viewers.
