PM on June 13: While Tragic, It Was a Day of Great Unity

Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia visited the June 13 memorial today to honor the memory of the victims of the tragedy.

In his words, June 13 is one of the most tragic dates in the recent history of Georgia, however, at the same time, it was a day when young people showed an exemplary unity and civic responsibility.

"5 years have passed since June 13, 2015, when the biggest tragedy happened in Tbilisi. First of all, I express my condolences to the citizens who lost their family members. However, on the other hand, it was a day of great unity and solidarity, when young people showed the greatest strength and energy to stand together and to care for one another," the PM emphasized.

The flood that struck the city back in June 2013 claimed the lives of more than 20 people. Two were never found.

The tragedy united hundreds of people around one goal - helping those in need and rebuilding the city that was devastated by the severe flood.

Ordinary citizens of Tbilisi left their homes and teamed up to help emergency workers to clean Heroes’ Square, Tbilisi Zoo and nearby territories.
