COVID-19: ICRC Hands over Personal Protective Equipment to Medical Staff of Tskhinvali
The International Committee of Red Cross has handed over personal protective equipment to the healthcare structures of Tskhinvali/South Ossetia region.
"The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has mobilized and redistributed resources both globally and locally to meet the most urgent needs of the COVID-19 pandemic. The support and assistance of medical staff is of utmost importance, as they are primarily at risk of contracting the disease,” said Maria Carmen Echesareta Inuriteg, the head of the International Red Cross Committee mission in the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia.
This donation was coordinated with the local leadership and handed over to the health structures of local towns and villages.
The donation includes protective glasses, coats, respirators, gloves, disinfectants, face masks, and other appropriate means to assist local medical staff in responding to the widespread of COVID-19. The cost of this assistance is approximately 70,000 Swiss francs.
"We have been in constant contact with health officials and monitored the needs related to COVID-19 to provide timely and appropriate assistance," notes Echesareta, "The ICRC continues to provide humanitarian assistance to people in need within its capabilities."
