Three Individuals Arrested on Charges of Selling a Newborn

The officers of the Anti-corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia, as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, detained three individuals on the fact of selling of a newborn.

The investigation establishes that a boy was born on June 18, 2020, to a couple residing in Dusheti. In order to receive income in large amounts, they intended to sell the child. The parents got in touch with an individual and agreed to sell the child for USD 5000, which was followed by the consent of the latter.

The mentioned individual registered in the Public Registry as the father of the newborn and received a birth certificate, after which he handed over USD 5000 to the parents of the child as agreed. 

The investigation is in progress on the fact of unlawful transactions with respect to a minor, which envisages imprisonment for a term of two to five years.

The Anti-corruption Agency of State Security Service of Georgia continues its investigation.
