Court Leaves Giorgi Rurua in Custody
The Tbilisi City Court has decided to keep Giorgi Rurua, the founder and shareholder of the opposition-minded Mtavari Arkhi TV, in custody.
The judge did not grant the motion of the defense to change the measure of restraint.
The motion to change the measure of restraint was opposed by the prosecution, which said that today's interrogation of the witness had not revealed any new circumstances and that threats still remained in place.
Rurua was arrested on November 18, 2019, for illegal possession and carrying of a firearm, a crime committed under Article 236 (3,4) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The opposition claims that he is a "political prisoner" and demands his release "as part of the March 8 Agreement between the parties."
