Olympic Champion Zurab Zviadauri Wounded

Olympic champion and veteran judoka Zurab Zviadauri has been wounded with a cold weapon.

The incident occurred in Akhmeta, a town in Georgia's Kakheti region. 

The athlete was taken to Akhmeta Referral Hospital and is under medical supervision.

Doctors say that his condition is satisfactory.

The reasons behind the incident are unknown at this stage. 

Zviadauri competed in the Men's 90 kg at the 2004 Summer Olympics and won the gold medal.

He also won two silver medals at world championships (in 2001 and in 2003) and a bronze at the European Championship in 2002.

Zviadauri is cousin of another Olympic champion, Georgian-born Greek Judoka Ilias Iliadis (born Jarji Zviadauri), who also won gold at the 2004 Summer Olympic games.
