PM: Georgia will Hold High-quality Democratic Elections
"Georgia will hold high-quality democratic elections and the Georgian Dream will win with the dignity of course in a fair contest. The country needs this success," Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said during the presentation of the Party's majoritarian candidates today.
In his words, this is a big responsibility of political parties, media, civil sector and citizens.
In addition, the PM also announced the start of the election campaign of the Georgian Dream and noted that the proportional electoral system would have been impossible without the achievement reached in 2012 and the following success in democratic development of the country.
"We are launching an election campaign here today by presenting the majoritarian candidates and we are confident that we will win in this campaign. This victory will be the success of the country! It will be a success as we precisely know what challenges are currently faced by Georgia. We know precisely how to respond to these challenges in an efficient and effective manner. We have a concrete plan.
"We are entering the 2020 elections with a new, more progressive election system. We should all remember it well that the proportional election system would have been impossible without the achievement reached in 2012 and the continuous building of the state based on democratic, European and fairness values since 2012. It was only possible because of all these. What is most important, we should not forget that proportional election is a tremendous responsibility towards the country, along with a democratic advancement. It is the responsibility of political parties, media, civil society and ordinary citizens.
"We will hold these elections with the highest degree of democracy, and Georgian Dream will win with the dignity of course in a fair contest. And this success is needed by this country," he stated.
"Our goal is to build an economically strong, European and - what is most important – fair state. We need to double our efforts to achieve this goal. Starting from the day immediately following the elections, we should work every single day to make sure that we reach our goals.
"These goals are of course and predominantly job creation and a stronger economy, prosperity. There is no prosperity without one in every Georgian household. Of course, the de-occupation of the country is among our goals, along with social assistance for our internally displaced persons. We are keen to do our best to make sure that they return home in a peaceful manner. Our children and the youth, their education, care for our citizens, further improvement of the healthcare and social security systems, our meritorious elderly and their decent old age, the supremacy of law, fairness and human rights are also among our goals, ultimately leading to a dignified membership into a big European family.
"The path chosen by Georgia towards Europe is the most vivid, most successful together with our strategic partners. We should be most efficient and effective on this road.
"We will do all these together. Teamwork is the foundation to success in all of these. Unity! Together with our citizens we have managed and continue to curtail the risk originating from the pandemic. And we have demonstrated this to the entire world. That is why we can say today that we feel support for people. We also understand the price and responsibility of this support. We are convinced that Georgian Dream will win in a dignified manner and we will continue progressing together with people for the ultimate success of Georgia," the PM concluded.
Today, the Georgian Dream has presented the approved list of majoritarians for the upcoming elections, which is consisted of 30 politicians.
In addition to presenting the candidates, the ruling team has also launched its election campaign.
