Court of Appeals Sentences One to 11 Years in Prison in Khorava Street Murder Case

The Court of Appeals has upheld the verdict of the Tbilisi City Court and found Mikheil Kalandia, one of the participants of a bloody conflict involving teenagers which happened on Khorava Street in Tbilisi December 2017, guilty of the premeditated murder of Davit Saralidze. Kalandia has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Under the Juvenile Justice Code, the sentence will be reduced by one-third and he will spend 11 years and 3 months in prison.

Kalandia's appeal was under consideration for almost 3 months.

His relatives disagree with the verdict and claim that they will appeal to Strasbourg Court regarding the case.

Mikheil Kalandia was arrested on June 4, 2019, on charges of premeditated murder committed by a group under aggravating circumstances. He was found guilty by the Tbilisi City Court and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but under the Juvenile Justice Code, his sentence was reduced by one-third to 11 years and 3 months.

On December 1 of 2017, a brawl between the students on Khorava Street left two teenagers – Davit Saralidze and Levan Dadunashvili – dead.
