Miner Injures Himself in Protest in Tkibuli
One of the miners from Tkibuli, the mining town in Georgia's Imereti region, has injured himself in protest in the office of the director of the company.
He has been hospitalized and his life is not in danger.
The press service of the company where the miner is employed notes that the reason behind the incident is the following: the company asked the employee to take the conclusion of the health commission as a precondition for working in the mine; if this conclusion was positive, he would be allowed to work in the mine, however, he did not receive this conclusion and was moved to another position, which is relatively low-paid.
The company's press service says that this became the basis for the protest, and although the employer promised him that from September he would receive the desired job, he injured himself.
In turn, the injured worker claims that the low income earned in the new position would not be enough for him and his family, which became the cause of the extreme form of protest from his side.
In the last few months, Tkibuli miners have held a number of rallies demanding the observance of safety norms in the workplace.
