Tengiz Tsertsvadze: We Should Stay Alert Until COVID-19 Vaccine is Ready

Georgia’s health experts keep warning that despite Georgia’s astonishing success in fighting the coronavirus, people should not relax until a vaccine is ready.

General Director of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital, Tengiz Tsertsvadze, today warned that coronavirus still poses a significant threat to the world.

"The number of COVID-19 cases keeps mounting around the globe. The US sets a record of new cases every day. There are 500-600 cases in Armenia and Azerbaijan, 7000-8000 in Russia, 1500 in Turkey. In this context, Georgia has already achieved a miracle with the outstanding work of the relevant structures; but Georgia still has to face considerably less cases,” Tsertsvadze said.

"People feel relaxed as the danger seems far away; they gather in large groups. Individual cases that keep popping up may be helpful in awakening them. COVID-19 is not gone. Unfortunately, we will have to coexist with the virus until a vaccine or medicine is available. There will be dozens of cases and they must be met with a strong clinical sector, so that they do not create discomfort for Georgia”  Tsertsvadze added.
