Amiran Gamkrelidze: All Markets Will be Subjected to PCR Testing
Head of Georgia’s National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, today said that over 1415 traders of Lilo market have been tested for COVID-19, and 5 cases of infection have been confirmed.
Gamkrelidze added that markets are among the highest risk places for spreading the virus, which is why all of them will be subjected to PCR testing.
“While the outdoors is generally safer than indoors thanks to nature’s natural ventilation, large gatherings such as those at markets still pose a serious risk. Heavy testing has been ongoing at the Lilo market for three days now. A total of 1415 persons have been tested, and 5 cases of the infection have been detected. We will today receive results for 500 more tests”, said Gamkrelidze.
