Tbilisi Celebrates Queen Elizabeth's Birthday
Numerous representatives of Georgia's expat community, political elite and media representatives gathered at the British Embassy last night to raise a glass to Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of her birthday. Ambassador Hall Hall stood beside Georgian President Margvelashvili as the national anthems of both countries were sung by those gathered, including the Georgian and Welsh rugby teams who will be playing tomorrow.
Guests were treated to a variety of dishes representing each country taking part in the Rugby World Cup.
In her speech the Ambassador placed special emphasis on 2015 being the official year in Georgia for reducing violence against women and invited Minister of Defense Tina Khidasheli to the stage as an example of the new wave of strong Georgian women.
"As I look around at the people gathered here, I also see many examples of the strength of British-Georgian relations," Ambassador Hall Hall said. "I'm privileged to be Britain's ambassador here!" she concluded, before handing the stage to President Margvelashvili who spoke with pride and respect of the connection with and love for the UK, its culture and institutions, that many Georgians have.
