It is planned that 4,000 people will be tested for COVID-19 in the Municipality of Mestia throughout the week, according to Amiran Gamkrelidze, Director General of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC).
Dependent on the test results, a short-term action plan will be established, determining how strict the restrictions will be for the population.
Gamkrelidze also revealed that in the village of Lunjeri, in the municipality of Mestia, 11 COVID-19 cases have been detected during the past two days. An additional 5 new cases were registered in Tbilisi – these latter patients’ contacts are associated with those infected in Lunjeri. It was this that called for adequate, and additional restrictions in Mestia Municipality.
Mestia has been closed for inner traveling for two days now. On August 10, Lunjeri registered 12 new COVID cases. Up to 380 people were tested in Mestia yesterday – the results are not known yet.
