Shavishvili Winery in Village Vaio
The Keda Municipality, located in the middle of the Adjaristskali river basin, is an integral part of the beautiful region of Adjara. The municipality’s economic potential and breath-taking nature were often overlooked, but back in 2017, with the support of the EU ENPARD programme, CENN established a Local Action Group in the Keda Municipality and funded over 70 different projects in various fields including agriculture, tourism, culture, and education, among others. Over time, Georgia Today will be sharing stories about local businesses and recommending places to visit and stay for quality wine, eco-tours, and/or cultural and musical experiences.
There’s another family business worthy of your attention in the village of Vaio. All the touristic maps of Georgia have Lado Shavishvili’s family hotel and winery in them, under the “Wine Route.” However, the Shavishvilis in village Vaio are not only famous with their wine – but they also produce spirit made from different kinds of fruit and honey.
The family offers various activities like the degustation of traditional Georgian cuisine, getting accustomed to the rich and unique Georgian folklore, and the participation in rtveli and the wine-making process.
With the support of the EU ENPARD project, the family has now built a unique and beautiful wine cellar where guests can learn and taste Lado’s extraordinary wine varieties.
