Yulia Tymoshenko in Critical Condition after Contracting COVID-19
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has tested positive for COVID-19 and is in a critical condition with a high fever, the RBC Ukraine news agency reports.
News that the 59-year-old Tymoshenko had fallen ill with the coronavirus came on Sunday, with her health worsening on Monday evening.
Marina Soroka, a spokeswoman for the Fatherland Party, confirmed that Tymoshenko is fighting a serious condition, saying on Facebook, “Yes, unfortunately, it’s correct”. Soroka added that Tymoshenko’s daughter Yevgenia and her son-in-law Artur Chechetkin have also been infected with the coronavirus.
RBC added that Tymoshenko is currently on a ventilator, with her condition being critical yet stable. As reported, her temperature has yet to fall below 39 degrees.
Yulia Tymoshenko is the first high-profile Ukrainian politician known to have contracted the coronavirus.
Ukraine today reported 1,658 new coronavirus cases and 25 deaths, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 108,415, with 2,318 deaths.
