Georgian Parliament Approves New Regulations on Travel to EU Countries
Georgian Parliament has approved legislative changes which will impose new regulations on travel to EU countries.
Based on the bill, a citizen will not have the right to leave Georgia if he/she is searched by law enforcement agencies or submits forged or invalid documents.
The draft law defines the cases when a citizen of Georgia may be refused permission to cross the border.
If a Georgian citizen does not have the following:
- Valid biometric passport issued in the last 10 years
- Round-trip ticket
- Booking of the hotel/apartment or other documents; address of the host who has legal residence in the EU/Schengen area
- Travel insurance
- Proof of funds
In addition, if a citizen creates conditions that abuse the right to asylum in a foreign country, he/she will face imprisonment for a term of three to six years.
