Of 158 New Coronavirus Cases, 87 Detected in Adjara
Of 158 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus detected in Georgia today, 87 are related to Adjara and 18 to Tbilisi, Marina Ezugbaia, the Medical Director of the Tbilisi Central Infectious Diseases Hospital, has announced.
She noted that the rate of spread of the virus does not give cause for panic, because the government, the Ministry of Health and the Center for Disease Control have taken rapid and proportionate measures.
"158 new cases of COVID infection were confirmed today. The overall number of confirmed cases amounts to 2075. Out of 158 new cases, 87 are connected to Adjara, 28 - Samegrelo, 19 - Imereti, 6 - Guria and 18 -Tbilisi. We have never had so high numbers in the country, but it does not give us reason to panic, we need to stay relatively calm. Very immediate, prompt, proportionate actions were taken by the government, the Ministry of Health and the Disease Control, the contacts of the infected were found and examined very quickly," she said.
Ezugbaia added that the virus has been almost localized in Batumi and Tsageri.
"We can state that we will stop the spread of the infection. Batumi is almost localized. Tsageri has also been localized", she stressed.
As of September 12, 158 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Georgia, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2075.
Nine patients have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, increasing the total to 1 363.
Currently, there are 693 active cases in Georgia.
