Construction of Saguramo Hydro Power Plant Started

The construction of the Saguramo hydro power plant has started. The company conducted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) permit and started preparation works for the construction.

The plant will have a total output of 4.6 MW and annual output of 32 million kW. In the future, the HPP clean water will be able to be recycled and used as supply.

Georgian Water and Power (GWP) invested 10.5 million GEL. GWP is a drinking water supplier for Tbilisi and already operates two hydro power stations.

Austrian company ANDRITZ HYDRO SAS will provide turbines, generators, mechanical auxiliaries, electrical power systems and plant automation for Saguramo HPP.

The opening ceremony of the plant was attended by Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze and GWP General Director Giorgi Tskhadadze.

“In recent years local business has become very active by implementing projects in the energy sector. This is certainly due to the fact that we have simplified certain regulations, mitigated them and made investing easier,” said Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze.
