Georgia Regional Leader in Corruption Control among 20 Countries for 3rd Time in Row
"In terms of control of corruption, Georgia is the region’s leader, ranked among Europe’s top 20 countries for the third time in a row, ahead of such EU member states as Spain, Italy, Latvia, the Czech Republic, and others," Georgian Prime Minister’s Economic Advisor Beka Liluashvili commented on the World Bank’s recent Worldwide Governance Indicators research.
Liluashvili noted that in 2012, Georgia ranked 62nd in the world in the same category.
“One of the main achievements and outputs of Georgian Dream—Democratic Georgia’s ruling political force is the irreversible development of the country’s democratic and state institutions, as repeatedly confirmed and commended by various international organizations. One such highly reputable international organization, the World Bank, has published its latest research, the Worldwide Governance Indicators, assessing the level of development of various institutions by country. According to this research, Georgia is the region’s leader ranked among Europe’s top 20 countries for third time in a row, ahead of such EU member states as Spain, Italy, Latvia, the Czech Republic, and others. Notably, in 2012, Georgia ranked 62nd in the world in the same category,” he emphasized.
In commenting on the research, the Prime Minister’s Advisor pointed out the government effectiveness and rule of law indicators.
“In the government effectiveness indicator, Georgia has reached a historic high, ranking 37th in the world and 24th in Europe, ahead of such countries as Greece, Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria, and others. Another important indicator is the rule of law, in which Georgia is ahead of 7 NATO member states, 3 EU member states, and this particular indicator is based on the final assessments by 11 leading think-tanks and the US State Department. To summarize, the country’s democratic institutions are developing irreversibly, and this process will continue,” the Prime Minister’s Advisor stated.
