30th Anniversary of German Unity Day

30 years ago East and West Germany were reunited, to the celebration of the German people.

The German Unity Day is the National Day of Germany, celebrated on 3 October as a public holiday. It commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990 when the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) were unified so that for the first time since 1945 there existed a single German state.

The German Unity Day on 3 October has been the German National Holiday since 1990 when the reunification was formally completed.

The German Embassy in Tbilisi has responded to this important occasion with a special statement.

"30th Anniversary of German Unification: Celebrate Solidarity Together! The unification of Germany was a great achievement in international diplomacy and was made possible through the cooperation of our European neighbors, friends and alliance partners, for which we are grateful. History has shown what can be achieved if we act together and show solidarity and readiness to compromise. In such case we will have the strength to overcome walls and borders," the Embassy stated.
