Doctors Fighting COVID-19 Awarded Title of Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi
On the occasion of Tbilisoba, an annual October festival that celebrates the diversity and history of Georgia's capital, Mayor Kakha Kaladze awarded the honorary citizens of Tbilisi.
The solemn event was held in the courtyard of the Palace of State Ceremonies and, due to the pandemic situation, was broadcast live to the general public.
This year, 9 doctors fighting COVID-19 were awarded the title of honorary citizen of Tbilisi for their great contribution:
- Amiran Gamkrelidze - General Director of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health;
- Paata Imnadze - Deputy Director of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health;
- Marina Endeladze, Head of the Boxed Department of the Infectious Diseases Hospital;
- Tengiz Tsertsvadze - Director General of the Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center;
- Marina Ezugbaia - Medical Director of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital;
- Levan Gopodze - Director of the Tbilisi Republican Hospital;
- Levan Ratiani - General Director of the First University Clinic of Tbilisi State Medical University;
- Elza Vashakidze - Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Tbilisi Medical University;
- Davit Gadelia - Director General of the Academician Vakhtang Bochorishvili Clinic.
Famous Georgian writer Guram Dochanashvili was also awarded the title of honorary citizen of Tbilisi.
This year, the Tbilisoba Festival was fully dedicated to the memory of renowned Georgian composer Giya Kancheli, however, due to the deteriorating epidemiological situation, Tbilisi City Hall canceled all events related to the capital's holiday, except for awarding honorary citizens of Tbilisi.
The immortal melodies of Giya Kancheli were performed at the solemn event, attended by the Evgeni Mikeladze State Symphony Orchestra, its artistic director Nikoloz Rachveli and other prominent Georgian musicians.
