CENN & ISET to Support Circular Economy & Green Entrepreneurship in Georgia

CENN and ISET, within the EU4Youth project ‘Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development (SEED) for Green Growth in Borderline Communities’ signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support the development of a circular economy and green entrepreneurship through education.

As a result of the memorandum which was signed on October 5 by the ISET Director Tamar Sulukhia and CENN Executive Director Nana Janashia, the circular economy course will be renewed at ISET and additional activities will be incorporated to offer further opportunities to students.

"The main goal of the memorandum is to promote modern education and the development of a sustainable and inclusive future,” Janashia noted. “A circular economy is an economic model that is considered in leading countries of the world as a catalyst of sustainable development and green growth. CENN is pleased to contribute to the introduction of the Circular Economics course and to the promotion of this topic among young people.”

"Circular economics is the most important issue, without which sustainable development of countries is no longer considered today, so the training of circular economics has become an important element of the ISET curriculum,” Sulukhia added. “This course, combined with other key knowledge and skills that future economists will master at ISET, will enable them to work on key economic issues and participate in local and global development decisions. ISET would like to thank CENN for its assistance in preparing and implementing the Circular Economics Course.”

The Circular Economics Course was first introduced at ISET at the undergraduate level in 2019 by CENN, as part of the USAID-funded project, Waste Management Technology in the Regions (Phase II), in collaboration with Dr. Hans Wismet, professor at the Technical University of Dresden. Currently, the course is being renewed within CENN’s EU financed project EU4Youth-SEED, which means that additional topics focusing on green entrepreneurship will also form part of the course.

In addition to the circular economy, the course will now also include topics such as natural systems and environmental challenges, the green startup ecosystem, opportunities globally and nationally as well as developing green and sustainable business models.

The main goal of the EU-funded EU4Youth-SEED project, under which the course will be renewed, is to create a favorable ecosystem for the development of social entrepreneurship and green innovation in the borderline regions of Georgia (Gori, Akhmeta, Ninotsminda) and Armenia (Lori, Tavushi, Shirak). The aim of the project is to discover the entrepreneurial potential in the most vulnerable municipalities and to promote entrepreneurship opportunities among youth.
