Georgian Epidemiologists: Coronavirus Peak Likely in Mid-November
The peak stage of the coronavirus pandemic may arrive around mid-November, Georgian epidemiologists have warned.
Deputy Head of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Paata Imadze says Georgia is now seeing a resurgence in coronavirus cases after successfully slowing the outbreak early in the year.
The steep rise began in late August, as the count of new COVID-19 cases began increasing exponentially, jumping from low double-digits to around 1000 daily cases today.
Imnadze said: “All the necessary measures were taken in a timely manner at the beginning of the outbreak. Since then, we [epidemiologists] have gained experience that now drives our ability to fight the virus; we have learned a lot. We expect COVID-19 to spread further, yet Georgia will no longer be placed under strict lockdown. The pandemic will most likely peak in the middle of November, which means it might not coincide with the flu season (late fall with a peak in winter). This is a big plus for the healthcare system”.
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia today confirmed that the government is not yet considering declaring a state of emergency.
