PM at Meeting with Large Employers: Our strategy is to Strike a Balance
Systemic lockdowns that have a direct impact on the economy will not be announced in the country, said Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia, at a meeting with large employers held at the Government Administration today. "The strategy of action will be to strike a balance, which implies precision-targeted measures," he added.
“Systemic lockdowns that have a direct impact on the economy will not be announced in the country. The strategy of action will be to strike a balance, which implies precision-targeted measures. Though, on the other hand, our duty is to urge the population of the country to adhere to basic rules. You are the largest employers and you need to help us in compliance everywhere and in every direction,” stated the PM.
Gakharia stressed that lockdown will be followed by a loss of jobs, a drop in economic performance and many other consequences.
“Both in epidemic and economic terms, we got through the first wave reasonably well. We are having relatively reasonable macroeconomic indicators. Resources available for the economic facilitation in the following year will be quite limited and we should decide together where to target them, both in terms of support and development,” he noted.
Large employers highlighted at the meeting that they fully share and support the balancing strategy proposed by the Government of Georgia for the fight against the COVID-19 which, they say, will greatly facilitate the maintenance of jobs and further development of businesses.
The Prime Minister of Georgia together with Natia Turnava, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia met with businesses today. Over 30 large employers attended the meeting.
