Road Accident Claims Lives of 6 Who Attended UNM Rally in Tbilisi
The road accident that occurred late last night in central Georgia, on the Gori section of the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway, has left 6 individuals dead and 10 others injured.
A truck collided with a minibus traveling from Tbilisi to Zugdidi. The minibus was transporting the participants of the opposition United National Movement rally in Tbilisi. They were returning to the region after attending the demonstration.
The members of the UNM have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, claiming that "Those individuals have sacrificed their lives to their homeland."
"I have no words... They sacrificed themselves for the love of their country. May they rest in peace," wrote Salome Samadashvili, a member of the UNM.
"We are in mourning, these people were our friends and I'm out of words. We are in such a terrible tragedy. I offer condolences to their families and all our supporters," said Khatia Dekanoidze, one of the leaders of the United National Movement.
Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
"I offer my condolences to the families of the victims," Gakharia said.
A pre-election protest rally organized by the 'United Opposition - Power in Unity' was held yesterday in Tbilisi, on Liberty (Freedom) Square.
Supporters from the regions also joined the rally organized by the UNM.
Members and supporters of the United National Movement expressed their protest against the ruling of the Georgian Dream party.
