State Officials Cast Vote, Call on Public to Go to the Polls

Georgian state officials went to the polling stations to cast a vote and fix their position in the 2020 Parliamentary Elections.

They call on the public to participate in the election, as this day is of utmost importance for the country's democratic development. 

"We are all voting today to build a country we all dream of, a European, democratic country," President Salome Zurabishvili told reporters at the polling station.

The President made her choice in the Mtatsminda constituency. She then called on citizens to go to the polls calmly despite the pandemic, as safety norms are being observed.

"I call on everyone to vote for the future of their family and the country, and definitely go to the polls," Bidzina Ivanishvili, Chairman of the Georgian Dream party, said after leaving a polling station, where he went to cast a vote together with his family.

As Ivanishvili noted, "He voted for the stability of Georgia's development, peace and a European future."

"Of course, no one can imagine a return to the past, I voted for the future," Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said after casting his vote.

The parliamentary elections are ongoing across Georgia. The voters are being given the possibility to elect 150 members of parliament.

Nino Tsatsiashvili, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, announced at a special briefing that as of 11:00 the elections had been held in a peaceful environment, and no serious violations or incidents had taken place.
