‘The Greens Movement of Georgia’ Receives Energy Globe Award
This year’s winner of the Energy Globe Award is The Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia, with the project Clean Up Georgia - Phase III (GMG/FoE -component).
The project was implemented by The Greens Movement of Georgia to help the local population improve their environmental responsibility.
The Greens Movement of Georgia wrote a post on social media: “The Energy Globe Award is the world's most renowned environmental prize and has been awarded worldwide since the year 2000. 187 countries all over the world are taking part and more than 2000 innovative projects related to the environment are submitted every year. Most of the tensions and wars around the world are related to the scarcity of resources and energy. That's why it is so important to find sustainable solutions! The participating projects offer these solutions in various fields, restore the faith in humanity and give a hope for the future of our planet.”
The organisation was established in 1988, and now has 46 local groups all over the country. Havingis no ties with any religious and political parties, The Greens Movement of Georgia aims to promote sustainable development, discourage utilitarian treatment of nature, establish ecologically safe technologies and promote solidarity and peace between people.
The organisation’s ongoing work to bring community-centered solutions to Georgia’s environmental problems includes practical activities such as tree planting, clean-up actions, public awareness raising projects, media, policy and legislative work, the development of ecologically safe technologies, to name a few.
