Georgia Exports Over 9,000 Tons of Tangerines
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, 9,281.67 tons of tangerines have been exported and 1,747.5 tons have been processed. The total income from tangerine processing is 349,500 Gel including state subsidies of 174,750 Gel.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Projects Management Agency carries out industrial processing projects for tangerines.
Within the project, the companies, which purchase no less than 1 kg of tangerines for industrial processing for 0.20 Gel, will receive 0.10 Gel subsidy for every 1 kg of tangerines from the Agricultural Projects Management Agency.
Currently, three factories process tangerines: Georgian Industrial Asset Management Group, Ltd. TCF Georgia and GEO-Flowers.
In order to provide markets with high quality citrus, about 40 (packing) pavilions are available to receive tangerines in Adjara and Guria, western Georgia.
According to the Ministry, tangerines are exported mainly to the following countries: Russia (78.83% - 7,387 tons), Ukraine (12.95% - 1,202 tons), Armenia (4.27% - 396 tons), Azerbaijan (1.52% - 141 tons), Kazakhstan (1.40% - 130 tons), Belarus (0.87% - 81 tons), other countries (0.16% - 15 tons).
According to some forecast data, tangerine crops will yield 115-500 tons this year.
