Aliyev: The City of Shusha has been Liberated from Armenian Occupation
The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated that the Azerbaijani army has "liberated" the town of Shusha in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"I am very proud to announce that the city of Shusha has been liberated from Armenian occupation. Shusha is ours! Karabakh is ours!", he said.
At the same time, footage of the Armenian population leaving the town of Shusha and its surroundings is being shared on social media.
Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan writes that the fighting in the city is still ongoing. "Wait and have faith in our soldiers," he wrote.
Footage of Azerbaijani citizens celebrating after Aliyev's statement on the street is also being spread on social networks.
The city of Shusha is a strategically important city and it is located a few kilometers from the so-called capital of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh, Stepanakert.
