Secretary Pompeo, Patriarch Ilia II Discuss Georgia's Role in Promoting Religious Freedom
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has met with the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II. The meeting took place at the Patriarchate.
The US Embassy in Tbilisi has reported that during the meeting, the sides discussed Georgia's important role in promoting and protecting religious freedom around the world.
"Secretary Pompeo was pleased to meet with His Holiness, Georgian Orthodox Church Patriarch Ilia II. During the meeting, the Secretary and His Holiness discussed Georgia's important role in promoting and protecting religious freedom around the world," reads the information.
Before meeting with the Patriarch, Mike Pompeo was at Orbeliani Palace, where he met with President Salome Zurabishvili. In addition, the Secretary of State held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs David Zalkaliani at the Governmental Administration.
