Georgian Sunday School Opens in Istanbul

On November 22, the Ambassador of Georgia Giorgi Janjgava and the Consul General of Georgia in Istanbul Inga Kikvadze together with the Secretary-General of the World Patriarchate and the Head of the Georgian Parish, with the blessing of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople of the Eastern Orthodox Church, Bartholomew I of Constantinople, opened a Georgian Sunday school in Istanbul.

 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia reports that the Ambassador of Georgia handed over the textbooks created by the MFA within the Sunday school support program's framework to the students of the school.

It is noteworthy that in the framework of the grant program supporting diaspora initiatives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia also purchased the necessary inventory and textbooks for the operation of the Sunday School.

“Along with the representatives of the Georgian Diaspora, the Ambassador of Georgia Giorgi Janjgava and the Consul General of Georgia in Istanbul Inga Kikvadze attended the Liturgy at the St. George Church conducted by Father Ilia Jinjolava, the Head of the Georgian Parish. The official representative of the World Patriarch, the Archimandrite Joachim Billis, attended the Liturgy.

“At the end of the Liturgy, the Ambassador of Georgia emphasized the important role of the Georgian Diaspora in developing the country's positive image. He noted that relations and cooperation with the Diaspora are one of the main directions of the Georgian Government's activities and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the diplomatic missions of Georgia abroad," the MFA Georgia stated.
