PM, Business Reps Discuss Ways of Post-Pandemic Economic Recovery
The impact of the pandemic-related global economic crisis on Georgia, the Government’s economic plan and measures to be taken toward social assistance for businesses and citizens—these issues were emphasized during today’s meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and representatives of the business and finance communities, at the Government’s Administration.
The conversation also touched on medium-term economic parameters, the Government’s economic plan for coming years, including next year’s state government budget indicators.
The representatives of the business and finance sectors listed challenges that they believe important to be reflected in the medium-term economic development plan.
It is critically important for the country to recover from the crisis fast, the meeting pointed out, and to keep and revive as many jobs as possible, and to enhance the population’s incomes.
The conversation revolved around steps to be taken by the Government toward social assistance for businesses and citizens.
It was emphasized that it will be especially important in the post-pandemic period further to strengthen coordination and cooperation between the Government of Georgia, business, and the National Bank.
The meeting also underlined monetary and credit policy in the post-pandemic period, a topic elaborated on by President of the National Bank Koba Gvenetadze.
The meeting’s participants included the Government’s economic team: Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maya Tskitishvili, Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani, and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava.
The discussion was joined remotely by President of the National Bank Koba Gvenetadze. The business community was represented at the meeting by Business Association President Soso Pkhakadze, CEO of Bank of Georgia Archil Gachechiladze, and CEO of TBC Bank Vakhtang Butskhrikidze.
