Glovo Leads the Charge for Next Generation of On-demand Delivery: Q-Commerce

First of its kind delivery of all retail and groceries products in less than thirty minutes

Glovo, the Barcelona-based on-demand delivery start-up, today announced the launch of its new business unit, ‘Q-Commerce’, as it leads the charge for the third generation of commerce — delivering “everything” within cities in thirty minutes or less.

Focusing on retail and groceries categories, and partnering with some of the world's biggest retail brands including Super, iPlus, Apple City, Miniso, and supermarkets such as Nikora, Spar, Goodwill, Carrefour and Europroduct, Q-Commerce — which is short for quick commerce — connects users not only with restaurants and supermarkets but with everything from toys and music to books, flowers beauty products and pharmaceutical stores.

As a pioneer in the field of multi-category delivery since its inception, Glovo’s experience far outstrips that of its competitors and the wider industry, many of whom have only begun to expand beyond food delivery due to the pandemic. The company has already delivered more than 12 million multi-category orders globally and in 2020 it experienced a growth rate of more than 300% year-on-year.

Daniel Alonso, Global Director of Q-Commerce at Glovo, said: “With shops closing down and lockdowns enforced globally, consumers now want and expect more items than ever to be delivered to their doorstep. This has brought new demands, and it is no longer a case of waiting 24 to 48 hours for delivery. Rather, the expectation is now a matter of minutes. At Glovo, we’re committed to delivery in 30 minutes or less, with all products available through Q-Commerce. As we continue to expand our offering, we’re excited to have launched Q-Commerce in areas of Spain and to accelerate its expansion throughout the rest of Europe, Eastern Europe and Africa over the next 12 months.”

Daniel brings a wealth of experience to lead Q-Commerce, previously Senior Director of Walmart eCommerce, his experience will solidify Glovo as the front-runner for Q-commerce, the future of delivery.

Glovo is an app that allows you to buy, collect and send any product within the same city at a time, in under an hour. It has more than 1.8 million monthly active users and 25,000 associated partners. Glovo operates in 288 cities across 26 countries, including EEMEA, LATAM, and most recently in Sub-Saharan Africa. Glovo currently employs over 1,500 people globally, with 600+ in the Barcelona HQ, and over 50,000 active Glovers make money from the platform.
