First China-bound Export Train Travels Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway

For the first time, cargo is being transported to China on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. The first China-bound export freight train entered Georgia from Turkey on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway on Tuesday, the Ministry of Economy announced.

The train is scheduled to cover 8,693 km and reach China in 12 days.

The Agency claims that this is an unprecedented event, as, until now, transportation of cargo through the Middle Transport Corridor was carried out from China to Europe only.

"Such projects and activities are important in order to increase the competitiveness of the transport corridors crossing Georgia," the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development said in a statement.

The Iron Silk Road connectivity program reduces freight duration between Turkey and China from a month to 12 days by following the Middle Corridor via the BTK railway.
