President's Reserve Fund Finances Abkhazian Virtual Archive

More than 200,000 Georgians were forced to leave their homes in Abkhazia and become IDPs during the 1990s Abkhazian conflict. Most have never been back.
But now The Georgian President's Reserve Fund has financed the creation of the Abkhazian Virtual Archives (AVA), a web-based archive offering information about the breakaway region of Georgia. Those who feel nostalgic for Abkhazia, but are prevented from visiting it by the occupation forces restricting movement there, can now enjoy photos, videos, books, newspapers, manuscripts, maps and family archive materials regarding Abkhazia on the new online archive.
"The website was created for people interested in this topic,” the website reads. "It is a virtual space that brings together documentary materials, accessible to all.”
