Coronavirus: Georgia Records 2635 New Cases, 49 Deaths
2 635 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed within the last 24 hours. It was announced by Berdia Sichinava, Deputy Head of the Task Force operating at the Inter-Agency Coordination Council at a press-briefing held today at the Government Administration.
He spoke about the most recent statistics related to COVID-19 and measures taken by the Government of Georgia as of December 18, 2020.
"Within the scope of intensive testing 16 870 tests have been performed within the last 24 hours, out of which 8 011 were antigen-based express test method and 8 859 PCR.
"2 635 new cases of COVID-19 are confirmed within the last 24 hours. It is noteworthy that a stable trend of confirmed cases is maintained against the background of increased volume of testing and restrictions, which we have imposed. We are witnessing a declining trend of viral spread.
"Since the detection of the first case, 204 003 cases have been proven test-positive so far in Georgia.
"2 244 individuals have recovered within the last 24 hours, thus making the total number of recoveries reach 171 526.
"Unfortunately, 49 new fatal cases have occurred within the last 24 hours. Since the outbreak, the total death toll has reached 2 002 .
"Out of 2 635 new cases detected today, geographic coverage of COVID-19 is as follows: 1 134 cases have been detected in Tbilisi, 230 - in Adjara, 338 - in Imereti, 216 - in Kvemo Kartli, 169 - in Shida Kartli, 66 - in Guria, 199 - in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, 186 - in Kakheti, 46 - in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 39 - in Samtskhe-Javakheti and 12 - in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.
"At present, active cases of COVID-19 have reached 30 449, out of which 6 680 individuals are treated at hospitals, out of which 2 867 are stationed in Tbilisi, 798 - in Adjara and 1 350 - in Imereti. Acute health conditions are observed in the case of 1 148 patients, out of which 523 are based in Tbilisi, 134 - in Adjara and 269 - in Imereti. Lung ventilators are used in the case of 427 patients, out of which 212 are stationed in Tbilisi, 43 - in Adjara and 53 - in Imereti. 2 183 individuals are placed at clinical hotels, out of which 775 are based in Tbilisi, 1 062 - in Adjara and 124 - in Imereti. 21 586 individuals are treated at home.
"468 individuals are placed in quarantine, out of which 235 are located in Tbilisi, 87 - in Adjara and 7 - in Imereti.
"In total, 20 610 individuals have been transported from the sovereign border to quarantine spaces in the period of October 6 through December 17, 2020.
"At present, 45 818 individuals are in self-isolation, out of which 19 175 are based in Tbilisi, 7 037 - in Adjara and 6 233 - in Imereti," announced Berdia Sichinava.
