Earliest Winter Opening in Gudauri in 15 Years
The winter season in Gudauri has been opened on December 13th, the earliest in 15 years.
The early opening was possible due to an artificial snow machine, which relieves the resort of dependency on weather conditions. The resort can now work throughout the whole year.
In total 29 snow spray mechanisms have been installed in Gudauri, which can cover a 1100-meter track with snow.
The official opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Dimitri Kumsishvili, who visited the resort's infrastructure, and talked to the rescue service employees. Kumsishvili stated that the smooth functioning of the rescue service is important for the tourists to feel secure.
“We are expecting guests not only from Georgia, but abroad as well. The development of the resort gives the opportunity to attract more investments to the resort,” said the Minister.
During the visit, Kumsishvili officially opened a new hotel complex built by Red-Co, a USD 25 million investment, and also visited another location where the Radisson will be build.
Kumsishvili was also introduced to the Gudauri development plan presented by a Canadian ski resort planning company.
Similar to Gudauri, the winter season in Bakuriani resort opened on December 13th as well.
