City Hall Employee Connected with Illegal Constructions Near Tvalchrelidze Street

At a briefing before the capital's government session, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze spoke about the dismantling of illegally constructed buildings on state-owned land, reiterating that "it is inadmissible to justify an offense by the poverty people have to live in."

He responded this morning to the dismantling of buildings on Tvalchrelidze Street in Samgori district, whose owners were warned by the Tbilisi Municipal Inspectorate on December 18 and given a four-day deadline to demolish the buildings. Kaladze noted that some of the people behind the illegal constructions in this area have the status of IDPs and own houses and land plots both in Tbilisi and the suburbs. The mayor listed the property of 5 people and their family members and noted that for those citizens who really have no housing, the authorities are ready to provide rent fees for apartments.

Talking about the owners of the illegal buildings on Tvalchrelidze Street, it is not the first case when the Mayor of Tbilisi has emphasized that the information that people are seizing state-owned land due to poor living conditions and lack of overnight stays "Is not true." "Unfortunately, one of the employees of City Hall was connected with the illegal constructions found near Tvalchrelidze Street, Isani District of Tbilisi," he added.
