Georgian Firefighters Trying to Extinguish Fires in 7 Locations
500 Georgian firefighters continue firefighting works at 7 locations across the country, the Emergency Management Service reports.
The Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs monitored 7 outbreaks of forest and field fires throughout the night. There were no complications at any of them. At dawn, firefighters resumed work in all directions. At the moment, the situation is under control everywhere, and the population is not in danger. During this time, no-one was injured in the forest or field fires.
Of the existing 7 hotspots, three have been localized, and liquidation works are underway. Fires remain in Samegrelo, Racha-Lechkhumi and Shida Kartli.
4 out of seven hotspots are in Samegrelo, one of them is localized and liquidation works are underway. Localization works continue at three locations.
There are 2 hotspots in Tsalenjikha, in the village of Skuri, one in the village of Pakhulani and one in Martvili, in the village of Dobarazeni.
There are 2 hotspots left in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, including one localized. A Border Police helicopter will remain in Oni and will be involved in the firefighting work if necessary.
At the same time, forest fires are raging in Georgia’s Russian-occupied town of Gagra in the Abkhazia region.
The central government of Georgia has been offering assistance to occupied Abkhazia since the first day of the fire, but the Georgian side has not been involved in the works so far.
"The Georgian side has been offering assistance to occupied Abkhazia in firefighting since the first day of the fire. We have constant communication through the hotline. So far, the Georgian side has not been involved in the firefighting efforts, but we are fully prepared in any direction," said the State Security Service.
It was reported yesterday that the forest fire in Gagra was approaching residential houses. Reportedly, the fire was 150 meters from the houses. However, recent reports say the fire has already been localized in the region.

Earlier, forest fires were also reported in the Gali district of Abkhazia, and they have been extinguished.
