Religious Items and Georgian books for Georgian Detainees in Turkey

The Ministry of Corrections of Georgia negotiated the delivery of religious items and Georgian books to Georgian detainees in Turkey's penitentiaries.

Georgia's Minister of Corrections Kakha Kakishvili and Turkey's Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ agreed in December 2015.

Kakishvili met Georgian prisoners during a visit to Turkey, where the prisoners asked for religious items and Georgian books.

The ministry collected icons and other church related items through the Georgian Orthodox Church, as well as artistic and religious books through publishing house Palitra L.

There are more than 270 Georgian citizens in 36 penitentiaries in Turkey who will receive the items. In total 36 special corners to pray are set up by the Turkish authorities
