Tbilisi TV Tower Lights up in Colors of Lithuania

Tonight one of the iconic sights of Tbilisi, the TV Tower, lights up in the colors of the Lithuanian flag to honor Freedom Defenders' Day in Lithuania.

January 13th in Lithuania is a historic day, since it commemorates those killed by the Soviet army in Vilnius in 1991.

On this date Soviet Union attempted to overthrow Lithuania’s legitimate government and take over the city’s TV Tower in the aftermath of which 1,000 unarmed Lithuanian civilians were injured and 14 were killed.

Georgia, in order to express its solidarity and pay respect to the Lithuanian people, symbolically lights up its own TV Tower in the yellow, green and red colours from 7pm to 9pm tonight.
