President Meets GIPA Students
Not many of you may know that before becoming the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili served as the Rector of the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs twice (from 2000-2006 and 2010-2012) and lead the university’s Research Department from 2006 to 2010.
On May 8, 2015 Giorgi Margvelashvili returned to GIPA, this time as the President, and delivered a special lecture – “My European Choice”. During his speech, the advantages of joining the European family and our historical connections with the aforementioned continent were emphasized. The President also criticized anti-European forces, debunking rumors of any threats; “Some say that joining Europe will result in us losing our traditions, however, the traditions which these people have in mind are never specified,” said Margvelashvili during his lecture.
The meeting was attended by the current Rector of the institute, Maka Ioseliani, GIPA’s students, lecturers and administrative members. The President answered several questions after his speech and took memorable photos with the attendees. The meeting was closed with a buffet reception and live musical performances.
