Number of Tourists Up 4.3 Percent in January
The number foreign tourists to Georgia increased by 4.4 per cent, year on year, to 323,159 visitors, according to data published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Analytical Department.
Those who spent at least 24 hours in the country increased 4.3 per cent, year-on-year, to 116,369 visitors.
The number of visitors in January from Azerbaijan, Russia and Ukraine increased 16 per cent, 10.2 per cent and 8.6 per cent, respectively.
The number of visitors from Turkey and Armenia decreased 5.6 per cent and 12.4 per cent.
The number of visitors from the EU increased 11 per cent, with France (29 per cent), Italy (26 per cent), the UK (16 per cent), Poland (15 per cent) and Germany (14 per cent) registering the highest number of travellers to Georgia.
January’s statistics saw a significant increase in the number of visitors from Oman (602), United Arab Emirates (1,064), Philippines (1,291), India (994) and Saudi Arabia (368).
The number of international travellers reached 5.9 million in 2015, an increase of 7 per cent compared to the previous year.
